Paper Guidelines
Use AMA format in text and for your references. You can use Zotero as a shortcut for these citations. For more information on AMA formatting check out this Purdue introduction to the style
- All figures, data, and graphics not of your own production must be cited.
- Label figures as Fig 1., Fig 2., etc. in AMA format.
- Have a section for references at the end.
- If you’re confused on exact formatting, look through published scientific papers in the style or shoot us an email with any questions!
- You will need an abstract, introduction, subsections, a conclusion, and references.
- Each section must have clear headings and direction.
- Here is an example of AMA formatting and how to label headings from libguides by the CUNY School of Medicine:
Example of AMA Formatting
- All papers MUST be non-experimental. This includes:
- Review papers
- Analyses of existing scientific literature
- A thorough breakdown of cutting-edge advancements
- Your own creative take
- Topics must be emailed to Nexus or sent through the interest form before submitting a paper to be considered.
- If you haven’t completed the interest form but the application is out, you may skip the interest form and go straight to the application form, so long as you send us your application details.
- We recommend at least 3 pages of strong analysis, but there are no restrictions on the number of pages submitted.
- No generative AI usage is permitted for writing the paper.
- Late submissions will not be accepted without a valid excuse.
